Denmark: Frederiksborg Slot - Coat of Arm

Coat of Arms

What a funny choice of imagery
For the Coat of Arms!

Hidden in the midst of others
Filled with Armours, Horses and Castles,
Here lies a Devil in Red
Waiting to be found

Denmark: Frederiksborg Slot - Room 33, 60-68

Room 33

The story behind this room
Is that I had almost missed it
I couldnt locate the way into the stretch for room 38, 60-68 on level 1
We came across a friendly patrolling security
who kindly obliged us with a shortcut through the "No admitance"
Apparently we have missed the connecting stairs from level 3
It was then he told us,
that every room in this stretch has a different and unique ceiling and flooring.

Now what do you know?
I may never have noticed this fact if we hadnt missed the stairs in the first place!
Isnt it some good fortune at play!

Room 67

Ceiling upclose of Room 67
The ceilings were truly spectacular!
Splendid!
Adoring!

Denmark: Frederiksborg Slot - A Classic and a Modern Find

A Classic Find -H.C Anderson Portrait

A Modern Find - Princess Mary of Denmark

I would have almost missed the portrait
of the infamous H.C Anderson
There wasnt special flags or pointers
And it was hung in a room full of portraits.
It was a stroke of luck to even see him there
"Sitting" calmly above my head

Denmark: Frederiksborg Slot - Duo Portraits in one

2-in-1 Duo Portrait

View from the Left

View from the Right
By default
I am not a fan of the countless self portraits of the Kings and Queens
However this little artwork caught the corners of my eyes
As I stroll down the long corridor

It was the protuding dimension
that had piqued my interest.
I wasnt wrong to stop and inspect this little gem
Must have taken the artist much workand ffort to align and paint
On the individual triangular strips
Wonder what had propel him to do so?

Denmark: Frederiksborg Slot

It was suppose to be something interesting
But I had forgotten to jot down what it was...
Sigh...

Entrance of The Great Hall
Marked Room 38
Reconstructed as it would have been
In the time of Christian IV.

Would have been nice
if the glaringly eyesore scaffolding wasnt in the way

Denmark: Frederiksborg Slot - Interesting Cabinet Interior

Cabinet with a twist
One's thing for sure
They dont make cabinets like they use to anymore

I was intrigued by the ingenuity of this
Where the creator tried to incorporate
The perspective of depth within

How the Kings and Queens of the past
Will mock or gasp our taste,
or the glaring lack of it
with the present evolution of Furniture designs...

Intricate designs as such is dead.

One of the best enjoyable reason for this trip
Phototaking are allowed so long its without flash
How wonderful is that!

The Chapel - Hung Painting
Agnosticism is my inclined "religion"
Though I do lean towards believing in the existence of Higher power,
I do not subscribe to any specific clan.

Yet it is that precise freedom which provides the leeway for me,
To Appreciate, To Respect, To Crave Understanding
Of the beauty and "sensible aspect" of every "belief"

There were many paintings in the Chapel
But my eyes landed on this peaceful portrait
that diffuses a certain glow to it
I think it was the angels...

It looked so lonely
Inconspicuously standing at one corner

Where timing is a matter of luck?

Before the running amok crowd of students ruining the shot
In the moment of hurry
My shot was tilted by 1 degree.

Frederiksborg Slot - Museum of National History

Located on the outskirts on the Northen Zealand of Denmark,
One has to take a train and swop to a bus to reach it.
I wasnt sure if it was off season, or it was just naturally non crowded.
I didnt seem many tourists on my way here.
It wasnt exactly easily located for an independent tourist.
I was constantly pointed to the opposite direction by the locals.
For some reason, they keep confusing left for right and vice-versa, so I often ended up in circles.

The good thing about internet was I printed some instructions from some other traveler,
and found the right bus to get there after walking in the opposite direction for good 20mins.
The bus doesnt have announcements,
or screens indicating the stops.
However you cannot miss it as the castle looms right up straight before you.

Denmark's Museum of National History is housed here since 1878.
The castle was restored after a fire in 1859.

Aftera while,
One will come to realise that many of Denmark's castles
Often repeatedly fall victim to fires....

Copenhagen: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek - Ugolino and His Sons

A Bitter Fate : Ugolino and His Sons - By Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux

According to Dante, the prisoners were slowly starved to death and before dying Ugolino's children begged him to eat their bodies.

'Father our pain', they said,
'Will lessen if you eat us you are the one
Who clothed us with this wretched flesh: we plead
For you to be the one who strips it away'.
(Canto XXXIII, ln. 56–59)

… And I,
Already going blind, groped over my brood
Calling to them, though I had watched them die,
For two long days. And then the hunger had more
Power than even sorrow over me
(Canto XXXIII, ln. 70-73)[3]

Ugolino's statement that hunger proved stronger than grief, has been interpreted in two ways, either that Ugolino devoured his offspring's corpses after being driven mad with hunger, or that starvation killed him after he had failed to die of grief.

Copenhagen: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek - Greek Mythology

Beheading Medusa

I was utterly mesmerised by this artwork when my eyes landed on it.
The visual emotions,
The strength,
The Unyielding Struggle

It was a frozen scene that commands a thousand emotions
whose imagery speaks louder than words.
The soundless scream of Medusa calls out so violently,
Contrasted by the marked determination to see her death.

I wish you had been there to see it.

Copenhagen: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek - Greek Mythology

Greek Mythology - Gods and Beliefs

I am a sucker for Greek Mythology. I grew up reading fascinating stories about them.
It was a pity they didnt last long enough to survive.

The tall overwhelming sculptures were imposing and beautifully detailed.
Unfortunately my poor memory failed me
And I cannot rem who the figurine was which is accompanied by the faun.
I think it might have been Apollo

Goddess Athena - Gods and Beliefs

Artifact Display - Gods and Beliefs

As you would have guessed by now, I did indeed spend hours just slowly going through the countless exhibit behind the glass panels. I found another one which tickles me and simply adore it.

"Ouch...Think I ate too much tonite" ~ it says to me

Pretty much describe every dinner I had in Denmark this trip,
Not to mention an accurate visual of my belly too.
Lol

Copenhagen: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

I love all the ancient artifacts that were unearthed.
Sometimes I see things that makes me laugh,
And this is one of them.
The pose was so commanding, so bold.

I started to conjure imaginery conversations in my head,
such as
"Hey Mister, Wanna Hang Tonite?"

What did it strike you as?

Artifact Display - God and Beliefs
Dont Rush
Dont think you have seen it all.
Dont brush off the smallest inconspicious exhibits just because it aint "famous".

Sometimes,
All it takes is a little patience.
To discover the cutest gem in the most unsuspected places.
I couldnt help but grin,
When I saw this little fellow (finger size tall) hidden at the back amongst the rest.

SMILE
Was all it says to me.

Copenhagen: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek - Edgar Degas Sculptures

Dancers - Bronze Sculpture by Edgar Degas (19 July 1834 – 27 September 1917)

I had the fortunate luck to stumble across Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum on a free entrance day!
Who says the greatest things in life isnt for free?
Copenhagen has proven these cynics sorely wrong!
Many great and beautiful things in this city is for free on specific days,
Locals and Toruists alike.

I love Art and Culture.
Spending long hours in Museum is one of my fav past time in my travels.
We have so much to learn and admire from the lost culture, beliefs and craftmanship.

Woman taking a Bath - Bronze Sculpture by Edgar Degas
One of the many reasons that this piece captured my eye,
Was how life-like the basin of water seem to be
The sense of movement,
A scene of everyday life.
I thought it was a brillant piece
So simple, yet so pleasing.

Copenhagen - Strolling along Stroget

Royal Copenhagen @ Stroget
Denmark has many great famous brands with stylish designer worthy products.
Stroget is the "shopping" street with the wide various of local and overseas brand.
Though I had not the time to step into any of them due to time constraint...

Copenhagen: Snapshots from Canal Tour

Boat House

I was told that this house had burnt down and rebuilt recently.
Sure looks nice and cosy

Welcoming Stautes...

Much as I tried, I couldnt rem the origin of this massive boat

Church of Our Savior / Vor Frelsers Kirken

There are 1752 Stairs spiraling,
Narrowing as they reach the pinnacle,
Offering a panaromic view of the city.
The guide said the best spot to take a shot,
Was right after passing thru the overhead bridge.

It was funny how everyone on board
Jumped straight up like a jumping jack the minute the low overhead was clear.
Obviously
I was one of the suckers...:)

Copenhagen Statue of Archbishop Absalon

Archbishop Absalon

Absalon remains one of the most striking and picturesque figures of the Middle Ages, and was equally great as churchman, statesman and warrior. His personality must have been singularly winning; for it is said of him that he left behind not a single enemy, all his opponents having long since been converted by him into friends.
